What does this quote mean? “Self-development is a higher duty than self-sacrifice.” Elizabeth Cady Stanton?


I think it means making something of yourself and improving yourself is above/bigger then sacrificing yourself. Like, maybe she’s saying that working to make yourself a better person or get yourself to a better place for a certain cause is more difficult/worthy then sacrificing yourself for that same cause.
